In a few hours, a new Miss Universe will be crowned and will wear the DIC crown worn beautifully by Colombia's Paulina Vega who won earlier this year, after Miss Universe 2014 was moved to January 2015.  All pageant fans will have its eyes set on the stage of Planet Hollywood as 80 stunning contenders will face the ultimate decision.

Before the coronation night, the ladies conquered the stage for the Preliminary Competition where fifteen delegates' fate, and not ten (this was confirmed by pageant blogger Norman Tinio in his prediction blog post), were ultimately sealed.  Although the prelims was not just the ultimate consideration, since there was that closed-door interview and of course, their overall impression since the day they arrived in Vegas, the preliminary allowed the candidates to strut their stuff on stage with their eyes set on the crown.  Those who stood out will definitely be the ones who will potentially battle it for the crown.

Now, after watching the Preliminary Competition, and judging each girl in both swimsuit and evening gowns, I came with the following fifteen delegates who I think will make it one step ahead later. Before that though, allow me to give you six ladies who I think will be potential spoilers to my Top 15. They are: Miss Australia Monika Radulovic; Miss Finland Rosa-Maria Ryyti; Miss Georgia Janet Kerdikoshvili; Miss India Urvashi Rautela; Miss Mexico Wendy Esparza; and Miss Thailand Aniporn Chalermburanawong.


Now here is my top 15 for Miss Universe 2015.

While the usual names are there, I believe that Myanmar and Spain can really pull an upset against all other delegates despite going unnoticed before the preliminaries. Spain, for once, is a regal beauty and can deliver both in swimsuit and in evening gown.
Narrowing the field of fifteen to ten, I came to consider their performance in the preliminaries and their overall look in the swimsuit parade.  This would mean that I have to eliminate Misses Russia, Myanmar, Haiti, Kosovo, and one of this year's favorites, Miss Vietnam.  This leaves me with my top 10, in order of preference, as following: Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Philippines, USA, Colombia, France, Spain, Paraguay, Peru, and Brazil.

With the top 10 competing in the evening gown segment, I looked into the elegance and performance of the girls as well as the overall styling.  It is because of this that Mariana Jimenez of Venezuela failed my cut, not unless she wears another gown and with a better styling.

Considering the ladies' showmanship, I am betting that this year's top 5 could possibly be comprised of Laura Spoya of Peru, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines, Olivia Jordan of the USA, Ariadna Gutierrez of Colombia, and Clarissa Molina of Dominican Republic.  I would not be surprised though if Paraguay, Brazil, and Spain clinches one of my predicted top 5's spot.


I do agree with Sir Norman that the Q and A round will determine the fates of our ladies.  All of those I predicted to be in the top 5 are all heavy favorites for the crown and so there is much more pressure and so much more at stake come the final question. One slip and it's gone.

Ultimately, I think Pia's consistency and her elegance and sass will bring the country's much coveted third Miss Universe crown.  Her sheer determination will hopefully shine through despite the tough competition of Miss Dominican Republic and Colombia who is stumping to death to end of being the last girl standing, especially the latter who is there to claim a back-to-back win for her country.  Below is my predicted result.

The new ownership of Miss Universe may leave all of us in surprise.  We still don't know what IMG is looking for. Whatever the results may be, though, I wish all the delegates, especially our very own Pia, the very best.

Just a few more hours and we will be waking up by the sound of church bells with the start of the Misa de Gallo.  For Tagbilaranons, however, mornings will be much more jolly and festive with Pamahaw sa Plaza which will start also tomorrow morning at 5:30am.

Pamahaw sa Plaza is a spin-off of the International Fusion Nights, a nightly cultural exchange through the festive flavors of the food presented by different concessionaries.  The only difference is that the feast won’t start at sundown.

Not from Tagbilaran but would want to start your day with sumptuous food? Worry not as Pamahaw sa Plaza will wrap only until 10:00am, giving non-Tagbilaranons a chance to take a bite of the breakfast joys greeting Misa de Gallo attendees every day.

Pamahaw sa Plaza is the product of the Bohol Association of Hotels, Resorts, and Restaurants (BAHRR) in partnership with the Provincial Government of Bohol through the Bohol Investment Promotion Center (BIPC).  It will run from December 16 until December 24.

There is no denying that Electro Circuit was Sandugo's biggest party event.  Following the success of the first Electro last December 2014, it is no surprise that the EDM festival that electrified Crabhouse by the Bay last July 24 was able to draw in more people from all walks of life.

Electro Circuit was definitely a night to remember and Crabhouse by the Bay was the place where the cool kids went that night.  The contagious synergy of the night (and the spirits) got into everyone's system and stayed up all night long dancing to the beat of the disc jocks and having crazy fun.

And when there is a party, there will always be those who will impress us with their moves or impress us with their style.  While waiting for the party to kick in, I was chilling on the ticketing booth and here are the very few who really caught my eyes with their impeccable sense of style.

Alex Thacker from Manchester
Alex was among the first to arrive in the area, along with her brother Joshua.  This bubbly cutie matched her warm charming personality with her cute style.  A gray peplum top in a classic cut matched with textured shorts was a good pairing of classic and modern.  And the blue sneakers added the perfect pop of color.

Angie from Australia

This Australian beauty rocked her outfit.  Style Score: 5 stars

This lady got me as soon as she entered the gate.  Aside from her good looks and her towering height, I was ogling at her chic style.  It was laidback and sexy at the same time.  A white crop top with cutouts and a high waist pencil cut skirt in black and white vertical lines with slit really had me screaming "Fashion!" internally.  And those black booties complimented her style.  The necklace was the best accessory.  Angie really nailed it in the fashion department.

Uca Trotin of Titans Entertainment

Uca Trotin is definitely the party style icon.  Style Score: 5 stars

Setting a great example of partying in style is the only rose among the thorns in Titans Entertainment, Uca Trotin of U-Bar Panglao.  Her neon orange lace crop top over her black underwear looked great on her and her skin.  Her denim shorts added to the casual feel (and the not sleazy skin show),  The dark blue and neon green sneakers added a kicking contrast to her neon orange crop top.  If there is a style icon when it comes to party fashion, Uca Trotin is certainly one to consider.

Dorothy from Tagbilaran/ Ateneo

Dorothy embodies simple and comfy! Style Score: 3 1/2 stars

Enjoying the few days left before school kicks in in the land of the blue eagles,  A white crop top (this was certainly the night's party staple) with fringes and tattered high waist denim shorts kept her cool simple and comfy.  The black flat sandals completed the look.

Paola Teopiz from Tagbilaran

Paola knows that a monochrome and one bold color combination won't fail. Style Score: 3 stars

Black and pink is definitely a no-fail color combination and my stylish friend Paola knows how to rock it.  A black see through top and pink shorts did the works.  Monochromatic with a touch of the boldness of pink, plus a chunky pink necklace sealed the look.

Moralla Girl from Tagbilaran

Moralla Girl sure knows how to make things look classy yet sexy. Style Score: 4 stars

Sexy without being hoochie is Moralla Girl's style (we had our OJT in college and we call her that because her surname is Moralla). A dark blue cutout top giving a glimpse of her assets, white high waist shorts, bejewelled slippers, and a big shoulder bag --- Moralla Girl knows how to flaunt what she have and look good in it.

Cleofe from Tagbilaran

Casual and hippie all in one take.  Style Score: 3 stars

She came in like a modern hippie that came from Coachella and went straight to Electro Circuit.  Her pink graphic tee is bright and colorful.  Her plain denim shorts toned the loudness of her shirt thus creating a great combination of mixing plains and prints.  Her bejewelled orange slippers (with those coquette accents) and the pink head band completed the look.

Christian from Tagbilaran

Kudos to this guy for being the sole thorn to make it on my list. Style Score: 3 stars

Now this is a big shout out to the only dude who made it on my list.  But it won't come a surprise since Christian is a fashion aficionado and an aspiring fashion designer.  Christian knows how to look good with his gray/ white printed button down and his brown cotton pants. It's a smart casual that every guy should know how to master.

I'm no style icon or fashion genius but hope you like my picks. Till the next Electro Circuit! :)

Nothing was able to stop Electro Circuit from electrifying the entire Sandugo merriment last July 24. Not even the light rain and definitely not the other parties that coincided with the most sought-after EDM festival.

The venue. Crabhouse by the Bay was filled with  high party spirits.  Locals and foreign residents, balikbayans, tourists, and even key individuals in the local social circles flocked the party scene for a night of booze and beats.

Look who came to Crabhouse to party? It's Miss Bohol 2015 candidates Katrina November Decker (Miss Cortes), Ma. Yvonne Perocho (Miss Sierra Bullones) and Jillian Ylarde (Miss Anda)

Right from the ticketing booth, you know that this going to be the best party ever for the entire Sandugo celebration.  Long queues of friends all shout #SquadGoals,  From the gates, you know some is going to simply kill the night with their dance moves or their cool outfits.  That prompted me to make my best dressed list which you can read here. (As of this writing, article is not yet published)

Just see how crazy it was right there at the ticketing booth.

The music of the spinning disk jocks got everyone on their feet, swaying and going crazy along every EDM beat. Electro Circuit's impressive visuals from light displays to LED screen display added more appeal to the already glitzy party. Then there is confetti too.

DJ Nina and DJ Funk Avy, who top billed the event, did not only attract more party people. Although unverified, I heard that some Manilenos flew all the way to Bohol just to catch the gigs of these two big names in the EDM scene to date.  The two also elevated the already high electrifying synergy that wrapped the entire Crabhouse by the Bay.  Drunk in the euphoric verve of EDM with shots of San Miguel or Bacardi in between, Nina and Funk Avy set the perfect mood to get Electro Circuit to an explosive climax befitting for a party that is aiming to be Bohol's premiere signature event.

She sizzles when she's off stage but sets the house on fire when she does her thing.  That is DJ Nina Saputil, the disc jock bombshell who is sexy in her own skin and much sexier when she starts spinning.

Owning up to his name and reputation as the King of Electro Mashups, DJ Funk Avy got everyone on their feet as soon as he came up on stage.  And man, he did really electrified Crabhouse by the Bay with every song he played.

This is my second time to party and all of my party experience, all thanks to Electro Circuit. When on my first Electro (read post here), I started out awkward and clueless, the last Electro was a party I enjoyed down to the very last spin.  What makes it even more special is that it is the debut of Titans Entertainment, the entertainment giants behind Electro Circuit and the future of Bohol's entertainment party scene I dare say, and the Bohol Blogger's Society, the community of young promising bloggers who are native Boholanos or who simply love Bohol.  It's cool to spend the night with some of the most amazing guys.

It's a party worth remembering and an EDM Music Festival that screams Party of the Festivity

Undeterred under any circumstance, the chilly night cannot match the heat of the party fever that Electro Circuit was able to create.  Cool people, high spirits, great music, fun night --- all this in one place, on one night, for one great Sandugo party!

Mary Eda Cimafranca, the unstoppable beauty from the City of Friendship, who I predicted to be the eventual winner of this year's beauty bout (read my prediction here), secures for Tagbilaran the crown that eluded it for six long years. Proving her front runner status is her proclamation as Best in Talent, Best in Swimsuit, and Best in Evening Gown, which are the three of the four components in determining the Top 10.

Rounding up the winner's circle this year are: first runner-up Mae Regil Versoza, Miss Talibon; second runner-up Charlaine Radoc; third runner-up Ma. Rhea Rebecca Rocha, Miss Jagna; and, fourth runner-up Ma. Jaira Redulla, Miss Guindulman.

All 23 candidates competed in three categories: swimsuit, evening gown, and casual interview.  They went under the scrutiny of a panel of judges from different fields and professions, which includes Miss Philippines Earth 2015 Angelia Ong, Mutya ng Pilipinas Asia-Pacific 2014 Eva Psychee Patalingjug, and the representative of the Lone District of Pasig City, Hon. Roman Romulo and his wife, Valenzuela City councilor Shalani Soledad-Romulo.

Miss Panglao Charmaine Ness Sagaral, Miss Baclayon Immaculada Cleofe Leopardas, Miss Cortes Katrina November Decker, Miss Corella Jissa Baugbog and Miss Dauis Shiela Estareja completed the list of Top 10 finalists who answered the common final question: "As a young Boholana, what is your vision of Bohol and how do you plan to pursue this vision?"

"I envision a strong Bohol that withstands adversities.  I stand for youth empowerment and be the best example for my fellow you," answered Miss Tagbilaran.  She also made mention of being a passionate advocate of education, completing her question by syaing "Education is the basis for success."

Eda Cimafranca succeeded Queenie Melody Fullante who held the year for one full year.  Queenie, along with other Miss Bohol winners were honored during the show, one of the main highlights of the show.  Showing up on stage along with Queenie are: Miss Bohol 1951.

Highlighting the event is the rare reunion of some of the best beauties in the province that was named Miss Bohol. Gracing the pageant night were (L-R) Ma. Teresita Abueva (1951), Idy Cagas (2012), Farrah Faye Mian (2011), Queenie Melody Fullante (2014), Melanie Wallace (2000), Cherry May Bacarro (2002), and Elizabeth Anana (1988)

Celebrity guests performances by Kris Angelica, Jason Fernandez, and Teejay Marquez eased the tension inside the gymnasium.  The entire event was hosted by model and PBB Celebrity Edition 2 4th Big Placer Will Devaughn with Starstruck Batch 4 1st Princess and Bb. Pilipinas 2009 1st Runner-up Rich Asuncion.

Eda is the third beauty queen in her family with her two older sisters Mary Elaine and Mary Ebone being hailed as Miss Dauis 2013 (the town's representative in the 2013 Miss Bohol pageant) and Miss Bohol International 2012, respectively.  She will become the goodwill ambassadress of the province for one year.

Miss Bohol: A Cooking Show?
An unexpected turn of events happened during the coronation when all of a sudden, the delegate from Tagbilaran who eventually captured the crown was booed.  And although it has been more than a week since Eda Cimafranca was crowned, the issue of Miss Bohol 2015 being a "cooking show" and the results rigged in favor of the City's bet has not yet died down.

Perhaps the organizers want it the issue to die a natural death, hence, their silence.  However, in defense to the young lady the judges has objectively chosen to represent the Boholana women and the cause of the Miss Bohol pageant, an official statement, I think, won't hurt. No need to show the scoresheet, as what one netizen was asking.  Coming to Eda's defense and addressing the public is perhaps the best way.  Whether the bashers accept it or not is up to them.


The 16-year-old Miss Bohol has great challenges ahead of her in the fulfillment of her duties as Miss Bohol. Her predecessor, Queenie Melody Fullante, has lived such a fruitful reign and is a tough act to follow.  But more than that, Eda is set on a great mission: to capture the hearts of those who doubted her win.  Knowing Eda and her winning spirit, I know she will do well!

In many parts of the country, provinces elect their respective festival kings and queens.  This year, Bohol will see that happen this July 23 and July 26, respectively.

The Sandugo Festival King 2015 will be elected tomorrow evening at the Bohol Cultural Center as the offering of the Alturas Group of Companies for the Boholanos.  Thirteen dashing young men are competing for the grand title.

After revealing my lower half of my Top 10 picks this year (read it here), I'm now down to my personal bets who will make it on the winner's circle.

But before we go to business, allow me first to share to you the three girls, who may not made it to my Top 10 (this batch gave me a very hard time), are still part of my "Girls To Watch Out For" list.  I wouldn't be surprised if they make it to the Top 10 tonight.  They are: Miss Corella, Jissa Baugbog; Miss Dauis, Shiela Estareja; and, Miss Bilar, Mary Jane Malaran.


Now, allow me to introduce my Top 5, according to their assigned numbers.  They are: Miss Panglao, Charmaine Ness Sagaral; Miss Jagna, Ma. Rhea Rebecca Rocha; Miss Tagbilaran, Mary Eda Cimafranca; Miss Balilihan, Pauline Quiñal; and, Miss Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, Marjorie Therese Monte.


From the onset, these five women have been clear standouts for me, and day by day, it has been very difficult to assign their respective places in my Top 5.  But after thinking it through, allow me to announce their placements in reverse order.

Fourth runner up for me is Miss Jagna, Ma. Rhea Rebecca Rocha.  I consider her the dark horse in the early days of the competition. She was not hyped, but someone to look forward to.  As the days drew nearer to today, Jagna clearly manifested how she is a force to be reckoned. Hailing from the town with the most number of Miss Bohol crowns, Rhea is rearing to add her name on the long list of titleholders from Jagna

Third runner up is Pauline Quiñal, Miss Balilihan.  From the time she won her municipal bout, Pau captured the eyes of many Miss Bohol pageant followers.  With a special award already under her belt, the sweet Pauline will definitely press on and bring home the crown to her beloved hometown.

Miss President Carlos P. Garcia, Marjorie Therese Monte is my second runner up.  I was told that she is still the second or third delegate to represent the young town (formerly known as Pitogo).  And this lovely young lady is undeniably a femme fatale.  Oozing with sexiness (she has definitely the best body among the candidates), confidence, and commanding presence, Miss Pres. CPG poses a great threat when its already showtime.  Plus, being an island girl gives her a vantage of seeing and experiencing the life that many Boholanos who rely on agriculture experiences.

I was at a moment caught in a major dilemma with the remaining two delegates.  But at the end, I'm giving the island of Panglao a bridesmaid placement (Mary Rose Butalid, Miss Panglao 2014, placed second last year) with the Miss Panglao sash bearer, Charmaine Ness Sagaral.  Cham showed major changes from the time she was hailed the Beauty of the Island.  She is a good canvass and can switch from sophisticated (see her Press Presentation look) to classic (there's her official glam shot) to fierce (refer to her official swimsuit photo).  But more than that, Cham is articulate, witty, and an opinionated young woman --- qualities of a good spokesperson for Bohol.

One thing to describe my top pick for Miss Bohol 2015, Mary Eda Cimafrance, Miss Tagbilaran is unstoppable.  An early favorite, Eda might be able to bring home the crown to the City of Friendship which has been elusive for any of its delegate for many years now.  She has a very queenly aura and a fierceness that is very palpable, two qualities almost every beauty queen possess.  She is also a young lady who can speak her mind and an approachable woman which will make her a good spokesperson.  Tagbilaran is definitely the delegate to beat.

Any of these women will definitely make a good Miss Bohol.  For me, these five young women possess the criteria that the organization behind Miss Bohol is looking for.

Tonight, a new Miss Bohol titleholder will be elected by a panel of esteemed judges during the Grand Coronation Night at the Bohol Wisdom Gymnasium.  At this point, all the ladies are in the midst of heightened pressure with the journey nearing its end, when all efforts are to be judged, with one girl coming out the most victorious.

Now, allow me to share my top 10 picks beginning with the lower 5 arranged in their respective numbers.  Any one of them can be potential spoilers for my intended winners circle.


There is something about Miss Alicia, Erin Kate Javellana that allows her to earn a placement in any pageant she joins.  It could be her sheer determination to tower (no pun intended) her competitors, her very likeable personality, her quiet confidence, and/or her massive fan base that supports her both online and offline. Whatever it is, Kate is surely going to shine her way tonight.


I hope it is safe for me to say that Miss Cortes, Katrina November Decker is this year's competition. Young, articulate, and beautiful, Miss Cortes has the making of a beauty queen.  Her competitive spirit showed during the talent night.  It's a good sign.  She won't rely on the physical attributes and will definitely try to ace the competition to get a placement in the Top 5.


We have Miss Guindulman, Ma. Jaira Redulla.  Guindulman is in it to win this year.  She is on the go, undeterred by the her town mayor's lack of support.  She has her own set of supporters, though and that is enough for Jaira to push harder to make her supporters proud.


Despite being finishing fifth overall last year, wearing the Barbra Pearls Cosmetics sash and being one of the most popular delegates this year, Miss Baclayon, Imaculada Cleofe Leopardas, on my personal opinion, is still to find her momentum.  Tonight will be her make or break moment, and for sure, Imma, who is definitely one determined lady, will put up a great show to clinch the coveted title. No settling for any runner up finishes this year.


And to round up my lower five is another repeater this year is Miss BISU, Leizel Mae Turtoga.  With a better look and a more confident aura, Leizel is in to redeem herself after ending unplaced last year.  Her string of experience in modelling and pageantry after her Miss Bohol 2014 stint, Miss BISU is a girl to watch out for tonight.
